The historic town of Shepherdstown has announced the schedule for this year’s “Christmas in Shepherdstown” celebration. Organizers say this year’s celebration will be as festive as ever. It will begin the evening of Friday, November 26, with the lighting of the town tree, and the arrival of Santa.
Other events during that weekend will include a Friday evening chili and cornbread supper and a Sunday Christmas concert at O’Hurley’s General Store.
Saturday, December 4 will feature Shepherdstown’s annual Christmas parade and the Shepherd University Music Department’s annual holiday concert.
Shops will be open late Fridays and Saturdays both weekends.
Specific events, times and venues are subject to change and new events may be added.
Friday, November 26
Free metered parking throughout Town!
Roasted chestnuts, strolling carolers and luminaries on German Street.
10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Stores open serving “sips and sweets.”
10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Shepherdstown Men’s Club “Christmas Bazaar” downstairs at the War Memorial Building, with artisans selling greens, wreaths, handmade crafts and baked goods.
5:00-8:00 p.m. Kiwanis chili and cornbread supper with baked goods at the War Memorial Building on German Street (Second Floor).
5:00-8:00 p.m. Bonfire and “Smores” on King Street. Sponsored by the Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department.
5:00-8:00 p.m. Chestnuts roasting in front of the Shepherdstown Public Library.
5:30 p.m. Grinch makes his appearance, bantering with Mrs. Santa and the “Whoville” residents.
6:00-7:00 p.m. German Street closed to traffic from Church to Princess streets.
6:15 p.m. Mrs. Santa reads “The Night Before Christmas” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” on the wall at McMurran Hall while the Grinch plays pranks and steals presents!
6:30 p.m. Annual holiday welcome by Mayor Jim Auxer on McMurran lawn.
6:45 p.m. Santa arrives to greet Shepherdstown!
7:00 p.m. Santa and his elves entertain children and their families inside McMurran Hall. Parents, bring your camera for a great photo opportunity!
8:00 p.m. Full stage presentation of “A Christmas Carol” by the Full Circle Theater Company at their theater on Princess Street.

11:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Our Gift to the Town at the War Memorial Building, sponsored by the Shepherdstown Business Association and Christmas in Shepherdstown. “Unity in Our Community” celebration. In attendance will be Santa, the Parish Pipers music, face painters, a magician, and clowns for the children. The Shepherdstown Men’s Club will sponsor a fundraiser selling fried and baked chicken, homemade macaroni and cheese, and green beans. Eat in or take out!
12:00 noon-2:00 p.m. Ron and Charlotte Sowers and their beautiful Haflinger ponies will be offering free carriage rides on King Street (weather permitting).
12:00 noon-3:00 p.m. James Rumsey Boathouse open, with talks about James Rumsey, inventor of the first steam boat, at Noon, 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m.
6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. Trinity Episcopal Church will present their Live Nativity in front of their church at the corner of Church and German streets.
8:00 p.m. Full stage presentation of “A Christmas Carol” by the Full Circle Theater Company at their theater on Princess Street.

9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Farm Market on King Street behind the Shepherdstown Public Library.
10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Stores open for Christmas shopping, serving “sips and sweets.”
10:00 a.m.-4:00 p. m. Shepherdstown Men’s Club “Christmas Bazaar” downstairs at the War Memorial Building, with artisans selling greens, wreaths, handmade crafts and baked goods.

4:30-7:30 p.m. Shepherd University Community dinner served at the University Dining Hall. Adults, $7.75; children 3-11, $4.00; children under 3 free. From “soup to nuts” and everything in between—prime rib, roast turkey with all the fixin’s, ham, seafood casserole, veggies, salads, figgy pudding, ice cream—this is the works, don’t miss it!
