Sept 3-6: Labor Day Weekend Celebration
Wind down the summer with a relaxing getaway in the mountains. Lots of games and activities are planned for all ages. Enjoy nearby activities like horseback riding, white water rafting or canoeing, and cavern tours while visiting the resort and Potomac Highland region.

Sept 6: Labor Day Golf Scramble

Sept 11-12: Flight of the Monarch Butterfly
The Monarch Butterfly is the most well known butterfly in the world. The migration of thousands of monarchs in North America to their winter home sites in Mexico and California are among the most spectacular and unusual of the worlds’ natural events. Join us as we celebrate the monarch and his butterfly friends. A variety of instruction classes and field trips are planned. Sept 18: Culinary University – Desserts & Chocolate
Learn to cook like a chef during this “themed” cooking class. Create desserts such as chocolate mousse, English Trifle, Black Forest Cake, Fruit Tart, Chocolate Truffles, Poached Pears, Banana Foster, Crepe Suzettes, Ice Cream, Strawberries dipped in Chocolate, and learn the secrets of white chocolate. Participants will receive a copy of all recipes. Class runs from 11 am to 2pm.

Sept 24 – 26: Leaf Peepers Picnic Lunch On the Mountain
When visiting the area during the Leaf Peepers Festival, be sure to arrange your picnic lunch on the mountain. A complete lunch for two will be available for pick-up so you can ride the scenic chairlift and explore the mountain, with lunch in tow.

Sept 25: Fields of Fire – Dolly Sods Tour
The park naturalist invites you to explore the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area over Leaf Peepers weekend. We will begin our day by visiting the Bird Banding Station where we will watch as live birds are banded as they start their migration season.

Afterwards, we will continue on our journey for vibrant fall colors and marvel at the blueberry (huckleberry) bushes turning a bright fire red with the evergreen and hardwood trees becoming multi colored. This exploration allows a fantastic opportunity for photographing nature’s autumn beauty. Bring your cameras and expect to capture breathtaking scenery.

Oct 2: Wild Walks Weekend
Take a guided hike through the colorful Canaan Mountain between State Parks Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley Resort. This eight mile walk will be conducted by park naturalist, Destiny Phillips. Oct 22 – 24: Wild, Wonderful Wine Weekend
Join wine expert and columnist John Brown and Executive Chef Nemat Odeh as they lead you on a wine and food adventure. Taste wines from around the world paired with extraordinary culinary delicacies at this three-day gourmet wine event.

Nov 5-7: Fall Scrapbook Retreat
Join us at this “Scrapin’ with the Oldies” themed scrapbook retreat. Christa Wildesen of Stampin Up will be on hand with a variety of vendors and supplies, plus games & prizes, classes, and more. Take time for yourself and enjoy or learn a new craft over the weekend.
